hear of the young girl who went through such torturous trials in Thor’s Volcano. Why would the army do such a thing? What could they be hiding? Listening to Zhed, it comes to light that there is a militant faction within the priesthood that wishes to steal the Heart of Ymir pieces from Rune-Midgarts. Doing so could possibly spark a war! Zhed explains that some of his fellow priests are tied up in some possible unsavory business, including High Priest Vildt, the priest in charge of the Thor’s Volcano base. Maybe sneaking in to Vildt’s chambers can uncover what nefarious plans may be going on...
Step 2: Passing by High Priest Vildt’s room at the other side of the sanctuary (ra_temin 85, 137), it appears to be safely guarded. It looks like we’ll have to find some way to distract them to sneak inside. Perhaps this young Female Follower (ra_temin 40, 124) might be of some assistance. Speaking with the young lady Lamir, it turns out that one of the guards, Karlum, has a crush on her.
Step 3: Talking to Karlum about Lamir, we’ve gotten rid of one of the two guards. Looking around for another distraction, a Flower Vase (ra_temin 114, 140) catches our eye. Knocking it over proves to be the perfect distraction as the second guard rushes over to see what happened and clean up the mess. Hurry, into High Priest Vildt’s room while the guards are away!
Step 4: Knowing that Vildt is in charge of the Thor’s Volcano base, we search around knowing that there has to be something here we can use. Rummaging through the Drawers, we find a File about the Veins Geological Research Institute. Maybe Zhed can make sense of this. Let’s head back to him and see if he can understand what’s going on here. Since the guards have returned to their posts by this time, we’re lucky to find a ladder in the office that we can use to sneak over the wall and back out safely.
Step 5: Handing the file to Zhed, he reads through it to try to see what he might find. While nothing incriminating is in there, it does seem that the geologist writing these reports is a bit erratic on his findings. Maybe he has something against the base happenings, Zhed suggests. A possible ally! Let’s head to Veins and see if we can find this geologist and find out what is REALLY happening in that volcano base...
Step 6: As we travel to Veins, the question arises: where could the geologist be? Scouring the town, we search high and low for him. Stumbling into the Weapon and Armor shop (veins 150, 175), we realize that there’s a dusty second story room. Looking around, we find a note that appears to be for the geologist. Guess we aren’t the only ones looking for him.
Step 7: Continuing to explore Veins, we find a fair number of people gathered in the local Tavern nearby (veins 150, 215). Checking around, we come to realize that the Drunken Man with the Drunken Ladies on either side of him is actually Gio, the geologist we’ve been searching for. After a chat with him, we get quickly set up to do his work for him. Hardly seems fair, being used by a lazy drunk, but this may work out for us in the end.
Step 8: Running back to Gio’s dusty office, we search the Wall Closet for the Pyrometer and the Bookcase for the File Folder that we were told to use. Armed with the report and the pyrometer, we head off into Thor’s Volcano on official geological business.
Step 9: Wandering the interior of the volcano, we search about for locations to take reading from. The first Hot Land Surface we find to suit our needs is right next to the entrance (thor_v01 37, 234). The second Hot Land Surface is near the lower right corner (thor_v02 165 37), just short of the third floor portal. Last, we find a third Hot Land Surface near the camp entrance (thor_v02 170 100). Armed with a completed report, we scurry through the entrance to the camp area (thor_v02 143, 78), ready to see what schemes are being hatched there.
Step 10: Showing our report to the guards, we’re let into the main base camp for Thor’s Volcano. Looking around, there appears to be a great deal of work going on here, but what is it all for? Still under the guise of a geological research assistant, we take our report to Sahedi (thor_camp 250 104). Sahedi doesn’t like what he sees in our report and wants our “expert” opinion on the condition of the volcano. To reassure himself, he asks us to explore the camp and see if we find anything that may be a sign of impending disaster.
Step 11: Exploring around, we can clearly see this is a military compound in the midst of gearing up for conflict. Question is who are they planning on fighting? In our wandering of the camp (thor_camp 188, 221), we’re mistaken for military personnel and get drafted into service!
Step 12: Colonel Vito has very strict ideas about training we should be doing and about who we should be fighting. Looks like some of the more militant followers of Freya want to start a war between Arunafeltz and Rune-Midgarts. Only way we’re getting out of here alive is playing along and following his instructions for now. After repeating his oath, checking on some pipes (thor_camp 109, 169), and practicing on a dummy, Colonel Vito seems satisfied with our progress as part of his army. He gives us his permission to check around and get used to our newly enlisted life.
Step 13: Wandering around a little bit more, we find more evidence of the army gearing up for war, from the manufacturing of weapons (thor_camp 172, 132) to the piled supply crates (thor_camp 148, 310). Having seen enough, we hurry back over to Sahedi to report our findings.
Step 14: Using this opportunity to cause havoc and possibly stop, or at least delay, war plans, we tell Sahedi that the worst is true: the volcano is set to blow any day! Getting our report validated and leaving, we watch as Sahedi scrambles to get everything and everyone evacuated. Work done here, we decide it’s time to return our completed report to Gio for filing.
Step 15: Still in the bar, the drunken Gio reveals that the pyrometer we used is purposely busted. It turns out he doesn’t want to lose his easy paycheck and has been falsifying reports to make it seem as though he’s still needed. Of course with his ill-gotten gains, he sees his way into letting us have a little as well and tells us to let the goddess decide our reward.
Step 16: Returning to his dusty office, we find the box he spoke of in the mess on the bookshelf. Reaching in and grabbing at the first thing we touch, we have our payment for doing Gio’s work for him.
*At this point, receive 800k base EXP and 1 of 4 random items.
Step 17: Flush with success at stopping this branch at least, we return to High Priest Zhed in Rachel Sanctuary. Filling in the details of our most recent exploits, Zhed realizes that while we may have put a speed bump in the plans of the militant wing of Arunafeltz, we may have to do something more direct to stop them sometime in the future. Only time will tell if we can prevent war between our two countries...
*At this point, receive 200k base EXP.
